Description
This vintage patchwork quilt is constructed in an improvisational crazy or string style using a diverse assortment of mid-20th-century fabric remnants. The front is composed of irregular shapes and strips featuring various patterns including red and blue floral calicos, blue and white gingham, striped shirting, polka dots, paisley, and solid color blocks. The reverse is uniquely assembled from large fabric sections rather than a single backing sheet. The central back panel features a large-scale white floral mod print on a black ground. This is flanked by instructional cut-and-sew novelty fabric panels designed for home sewing projects like towels and potholders. These panels include printed text and illustrations such as TOWEL, POCKET, TOP, and CUT HERE, along with detailed sewing instructions regarding seam allowances and bias tape application. The quilt appears to be primarily machine-stitched. Materials include cotton and likely synthetic poly-blends characteristic of the 1960s and 1970s.
