Kruma Kavacha (Protective Shield)

Description

This Devotional Wall Hanging would have been used to bless and protect one's home. It appears to have been made using composite methods, beginning with a sand casting of the central image of Kruma with a larger decorative bezel affixed around the entire central casting.
Kruma is the second incarnation of Vishnu. He is worshipped for the bestowal of strength and stability, which Kruma manifested in the churning of the Cosmic Ocean. There is a round loop style bezel affixed at the top for hanging. The back has a wide bar to hold the Kavach in place on a fabric mount.

Estimated dating is early-mid 20th c.
