Durga Kavacha (Protective Shield)

Description

This Devotional Wall Hanging could have been used to bless and protect one's home if, in fact, it was used in such a way. Alternatively, the size of this Amulet could have been used as a personal protective element. It appears to have been made using composite methods beginning with a sand casting with a larger decorative bezel affixed around the entire central casting.
Durga is shown with 16 arms, a prostrate body at her feet, which could be Mahishasura, and her Lion is devouring the body. There is a round loop-style bezel affixed at the top for hanging. The back has a wide bar to stabilise the Kavach in place on a fabric mount.Estimated Age is mid 20th century
