Description: High Victorian carved walnut sewing table, probably English, circa 1870-1890. The chamfered rectangular case has opposing hinged top panels opening to an extensively fitted interior with removable covered trays and numerous divided compartments. Applied relief-carved foliate scrollwork ornaments the front and sides, with anthemion-form appliques accenting the canted corners. The case is raised on four boldly pierced and shaped supports gathered around a circular central boss decorated with an applied floral medallion.

Retains an old refinished surface with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, edge nicks, and minor shrinkage along the top-panel joints. Applied ornament exhibits rubbing and scattered small imperfections. Fitted interior has staining, scratches, finish wear, and minor separations consistent with age and use. Brass hinges and fittings have tarnish and surface wear.
