Bbl. extension is appropriately blank over the top of the chamber, with traces of x3 inspector proofs present on the left. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Front grip strap is unit marked "87.R.5.4.", indicating issue to the 87th Reserve Infantry, 5th Company, Weapon #4. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Bbl. extension appears to exhibit a period reapplied blue finish, with the ejector exhibiting a reapplied blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Right side of the frame exhibits a small crowned arsenal proof below a circular incision, indicating that this example was returned to the arsenal and retrofitted with a hold-open latch. All serialized parts are matching in the early "hidden" commercial style and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, breechblock, forward toggle link (interior), as well as the rear toggle link. Firing pin and grips are unnumbered. MAGS: x1 WWII era production blued steel 8-rd. with non-matching aluminum plug marked "6899/ g/ +" above a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain fair to good amounts of their period arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray and brown patinas, scattered spots and patches of light to mild pitting, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts retain traces of original finish, with the balance having faded to a gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots of mild pitting and scattered spots of dark surface oxidation. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show scattered marks, nicks, and small impressions from handling and storage, with the left grip exhibiting a chip in the usual area, at and to the right of the safety lever. (26-2969/MLW).
