Description
A fascinating group of seven antique hand-painted glass magic lantern slides in wooden frames, featuring late 19th-century mechanical slipping slides alongside static examples. The group depicts whimsical, theatrical, and comedic narrative scenes, including street musicians playing a trombone and bass, a dramatically animated piano player, a magician holding a red scarf, a man teasing and being chased by a dog, a figure digging, and a gentleman tipping his hat beside a "Gute Nacht" banner. One slipping slide is stamped on the reverse of the frame for famed 19th-century New York optician and optical manufacturer T.H. McAllister. The collection includes an additional loose wooden frame piece. The group presents in mixed vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear, minor loss to hand-painted details, chips to wood frames, cracked or missing glass panes on select mechanical pieces, and a loose frame assembly on the digging figure slide. H 2.75-4", W 5.75-7", D 0.5”. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
