This compelling collection of turn-of-the-century glass magic lantern slides features a diverse array of subject matter, including hand-colored domestic genre scenes, a whimsical floral composite portrait, scenic topography including St. Anthony Falls by Underwood & Underwood, schoolroom interiors, and a military or youth band ensemble. Produced by notable historic makers such as L. Manasse Optician of Chicago, St. Louis Calcium Light Co., and Chas. A. Calehuff of Philadelphia, these glass and paper-bound slides capture vivid historical narratives through early projection art. Also included are two original vintage boxes from Eastman Kodak Co. (Rochester, NY) and Ilford, Limited (London, England). Condition is overall fair to good showing expected age-related edge wear, surface dust, heavy tape/paper frame wear, and box tearing; as noted, one slide suffers from a broken corner with the piece intact, and another slide features a crack through the glass plate.
