Description
The Edison Model 32A stock ticker is a legendary piece of financial technology designed by Thomas A. Edison and manufactured by T.A. Edison, Inc. between 1915 and 1929. Leased to brokerages and banks by the Western Union Telegraph Co., the machines allowed investors to receive live market data right in their offices and became the iconic backbone of Wall Street trading. This generation of tickers famously remained in active use on Wall Street until the historic market crash of October 1929. During the panic, the sheer volume of trades completely overwhelmed the 32A network, causing the tape to fall more than 2.5 hours behind the actual trading floorâ€â€a delay that drastically worsened the market panic and forced the financial industry to transition to faster tickers in the 1930s. When they were phased out, many of the machines were affixed with brass plaques and given away to brokers as retirement gifts. This machine serial No. 7622 is in VG condition and has the brass plaque attached to the front. It has its original glass dome with no cracks or repairs. It comes with a roll of paper tape with quotations printed on it. Measures 13.5" tall including glass dome, 8" diameter.
