George C. Marshall (1880-1959), General of the Army, Secretary of State under Truman, and creator of the Marshall Plan, the European economic self-help concept that bore his name. T.L.S. as Secretary of State, Washington, February 1, 1947, 1 page 8 vo. Responding to a letter from Mrs. C. R. Huebner, wife of General Clarence R. Huebner, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division who led the division in the assault on Omaha Beach on D-Day. The letter reads in part: '...Thank you for your note of congratulations... I have noted your comments on the state of minds in Germany and I soon probably will learn more of this directly...' The letter is addressed to General Huebner's APO address in Germany.
