Karl Donitz (1891-1980), German Grand Admiral and Supreme Commander of the German Navy, briefly succeeded Hitler as Reichs president and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht until May 23, 1945, when he was arrested. Signed and inscribed in ink on the mat board underneath his portrait: 'Mr. Stephen W. Bumball with best wishes, Donitz 22.1.66.' Photograph of Karl Donitz, 4.5 x 6.6 inches, overall frame size 7.75 x 9.75 inches, very good. From the estate of Stephen W. Bumball (1919-2005), a WWII First Lieutenant and US Army intelligence officer in the 103rd Infantry Division (Cactus Division), 307th CIC Detachment, and interrogator in the 970th CIC Det. He was a noted collector of military autographs and relics. This auction includes a selection of autographs and relics from his personal collection.
