Description
NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF (1934-2012) United States Army General. While serving as Commander in Chief of United States Central Command, he led all coalition forces in the Gulf War against Ba'athist Iraq. Signed b/w photograph, approx. 8 x10 inches, of Schwarzkopf in his Desert Storm battle dress uniform, bold signature in black ink: 'N Schwarzkopf GEN. USA, RET.' The photograph is display mounted to a large piece of Dessert Battle Dress Uniform fabric in the 6-color 'chocolate chip desert camouflage pattern with a black anodized four star insignia attached to the display and a Desert Storm name tape embroidered 'SCHWARZKOPF' and U.S. Army tape. The display is accompanied by an envelope with a handwritten return address: 'CINC US CENTCOM [Commander in Chief US Central Command] MacDill AFB, FL 33608-7001 Official Business.' The cancelation tape is Mac Dill AFB FLA. September 12 '91.' General Schwarzkopf retired in August 1991 at the conclusion of the war. The envelope is hand addressed to Stephen W. Bumball. The items have not been examined out of the frame and are sold as-is. The overall size of the frame is 16.25 x 20.25 inches. From the estate of Stephen W. Bumball (1919-2005), a WWII First Lieutenant and US Army intelligence officer in the 103rd Infantry Division (Cactus Division), 307th CIC Detachment, and interrogator in the 970th CIC Det. He was a noted collector of military autographs and relics. This auction includes a selection of autographs and relics from his personal collection.
