Height:8.1cm(3.19in)Width:4cm(1.57in)Weight:40g(0.088lb)This overlay glass snuff bottle was produced during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. It is made of clear transparent glass base overlaid with deep reddish-brown glass for carving decoration. The bottle is of olive shape with a small mouth and narrow neck. It is fitted with a twisted copper rim and a cap topped with a round lapis lazuli knob. The front belly is carved with the auspicious pattern of a monkey riding a horse. The Chinese character for monkey sounds the same as marquis, symbolizing immediate promotion in official career, a classic auspicious theme in Qing art. The carving lines are sharp and vivid, with lifelike postures of horse and monkey. The base bears an incised "Qianlong" mark. Overlay glass carving is a representative craft of glassware in Qianlong era. This well-preserved bottle features exquisite craftsmanship and favorable implied meaning, being a fine imperial-style snuff bottle with great artistic and collectible value.
