Description
Antique 1860s Child Tintype Portrait in Ebonized Oval Frame with Convex Bubble Glass
A charming and poignant piece of mid-19th-century history, this antique photographic portrait features a young girl captured in a striking, wide-eyed gaze typical of the long-exposure photography of the era. The child wears an off-the-shoulder Civil War-era dress and a delicate corded pendant necklace.
The portrait is elegantly housed in its original ebonized black oval wooden or gesso frame. It is beautifully highlighted by a tarnished brass inner bezel and an oval paper mat featuring delicate hand-drawn red pin-striping. The reverse side features a wonderfully preserved 19th-century pencil inscription that reads "For Corrine," offering an intimate glimpse into its history as a cherished family heirloom.
Crucially, the portrait is protected by its original, slightly domed convex bubble glass, which adds beautiful depth and prevents the image surface from coming into contact with the glass.
