Hand Painted Funerary Hatchment. Identified a being for Jacques-Antoine-Louis-Benoit van Werde, died 17 September 1793, buried 21 September 1793 in the Church of SS Michael & Gudula (Brussels Cathedral), he was a member of the 15th-18th Century family van Weerde, residing in the former Brabant Antwerp as members of the city council including mayors etc. 4 panel lozenge shaped panel hand painted with the large family crest of the deceased, written in Latin as “OBiiT” meaning deceased (usually found on Dutch panels) and also with the date 1793; the coat of arms has a lion holding a burning heart over a knight’s helmet, standing lions holding burning barrel and crossed wheat flags and flanking the shield with more barrels and wheat.
