Remarkable series of views of Cairo. Coste was an architect in the service of Mehmet Ali from 1818 through 1827. He was an instrumental figure in a number of projects including the Mahmoudieh Canal, the telegraph line from Alexandria to Cairo, and the reconstruction of the defenses at Aboukir.
