Lot 0015
19th century chaire (tea caddy for storing powdered green tea used in tea ceremony) with well defined shoulders, the body pinched in slightly in 3 places, beautiful green glaze and silvery metal cover. Coarse clay with beautiful texture and glaze color seem to indicate that the piece is Oribe ware. The foot shows stoneware body with typical Japanese oval lines on the bottom left by a string used to cut the item off the potter’s wheel. White metal (possibly silver) cover with flower finial, its bottom is lined with gold lacquered paper. Beautiful piece in excellent condition, height with cover 3 1/2 inches.
