Title: Compensation
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin
Publication Date: 1903
Binding: Hardcover
Book Condition: Very Good
Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket
Edition: Limited Edition

This is number 228 of a limited, 530 copy Riverside Press printing, for Houghton Mifflin, in 1903, of Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, "Compensation" (70 numbered pages. The cover (app. 4.25" x 7.5") has a number of scuffs and light stains, bumped outside corners, and surface wear to the edges of the spine, but no notable tears, prominent stains, of looseness. The spine, brown leather with five raised bands and extensive gilt design and lettering, is straight and securely attached. The gilt shows little fade, with the lettering clearly legible. The leather extends into the boards and at the outside corners, these sections being green/blue, with gold inside borders separating the leather from the light brown paper-surfaced remainder of the boards. The inside is near fine. The only writings are a gift inscription on the front end page and the copy number. There are no stamps or other attachments. There are a very few lightly foxed spots. Almost all pages have none. There are no significant stains, no tears and few creases. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the book conditions. Bookseller Inventory # 1104
