Title/Content of Map: 1799 Cary Map of Russia Under the Czars -- A New Map of the Russian Empire, Divided into its Governments; from the Latest AuthoritiesDate Printed: 1799 LondonCartographer: J. CarySize: 18 x 40 in.
A magnificent large map of the Russian Empire in its zenith. Great detail is shown in this political map. This map reflects the general disregard of Siberia, other than owning the land of the Czars. The Ural montains have an "O" inserted in the name, reflecting the difficulty of direct translation from cyrillic. Also noteworthy is the size of the Aral Sea, which is today virtually nonexistent due to over-farming in the area, removing all the water. This map is offered on two joint sheets. Color outline
