Ancient Greece, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A near miniature ancient Greek bronze votive figurine depicting an animal, possibly a calf, upon an integrated base with outstretched front legs and upwardly arched neck as if we have caught her mid moo. The naturalistic rendering of the animal's body form, its coat with ripples delineated along its neck, as well as its life-like pose set it apart from bronze animal votive statuettes of the earlier Geometric Period. Clearly, this piece demonstrates the humanism achieved by sculptors of the golden age! A fine example with gorgeous patina in remarkable hues of jade green! Custom metal stand. Size: figurine itself measures 2-1/2" x 2" x 3/4" (6.4 x 5.1 x 1.9 cm); 2-3/4" x 2-3/8" x 1" (7 x 6 x 2.5 cm) on stand.
