Prospero Fagnani was a 17th-century Italian canonical lawyer who is remembered for his commentary on the Decretals of Gregory IX. In the 13th-century Pope Gregory IX composed a collection of decretals which updated and replaced old collections of canon law. These laws clarified the powers of the church. Fagnani’s interpretations helped simplify some of the most difficult decretals that Gregory IX wrote. It also offered practices on the aspects of mass and lessons to Catholic congregations. He also wrote a section in which he probabilist doctrines.
