Lot 0021
Meissen-manner large porcelain monkey, after Johann Joachim Kandler (1706-1775), depicted seated on a tree trunk, the raised proper right hand with fingers pinched together; being a version of the original in white, created circa 1732 for the Japanese Palace, Dresden; the sole difference being that the 18th century version has a snuff box in its proper left hand, which this painted one lacks; there is also a small circa 1730 unmarked Kandler Meissen painted snuffbox with an extremely similar theme in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. 17.75" H. Blacklight reveals no repairs; old hairline crack in proper inner right leg, not extending to outer leg.
