Andrew Newell Wyeth (1917-2009) was a major U.S. artist in the 20th century. His Helga Period, 1971-1985, conducted in secrecy, with the completed and in progress artworks hidden. His wife Betsy was unaware of their existence. The subject, Helga Testorf of Germany, worked for Wyeths friends as a caregiver and later also for Andrew. Her husband knew nothing of the 247 works. When the series of over 240 paintings and drawings of Helga Testorf by the American master, Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) came to the light, it created an international sensation. The works were considered controversial.
