Ca. 1900, 212 x 170cm, South Caucasus, Karabagh

Composed of two panels, this decorative Azeri cover is woven in a compartment design in the sumakh and brocading techniques on a mustard yellow foundation. Each of the 54 square compartments contains a large cruciform design with a hook at each end; the design of the narrow border consists of double hooks resembling belt buckles, surrounded by a grid. Five of the hooks are woven from brilliant white cotton. – Very good condition.
