An elegant example, the hardwood stock of characteristic form with painted motifs and fluted breach-block. The steel sideplates with gold-inlaid borders, the match-holder and pan cover intact. The barrel with massive breach showing pattern-welded damascus panel with gold borders, surmounted by a gold inlaid floral spray and minute stippling for its entire length, the muzzle formed as a demon head with gaping mouth from which the muzzle emerges, the eyes inlaid with red lak and the details inlaid in gold. The barrel retained by silver wire wrapped bands, ramrod intact. Mid-17th century. Small piece lacking from butt, painted motifs worn, minor losses to wood. Overall length 148.5 cm. Condition II
