Huge 19th Century masterfully beaded Northern Plains Indian knife sheath which focuses on three thunderbird symbols, that measures 3 1/2"x 12". A superb example of North American Indian's Object of Art. The Thunderbird symbol, spiritual in nature, represents the great eagle, which culminates the powers of the Creator, Destroyer, and the Controller of Nature. With its panoramic veiw, the Thunderbird could see all, and veiw the world from on high. It depicted wisdom from which prophesy and calculated power was sourced from. As with the eagle feather headdress, this sheath must have been worn by a powerful warrior, or medicine man. It is in beautiful condition, comprised of early beads, and a pleasingly patinaed back. Includes a large period knife.
