(Paramount-TV, 1987-94) Hero illuminating Starfleet Mark VI Science Tricorder designed by Rick Sternbach and built by Tom Homsher. Primarily used in the first three seasons of TNG, this Science Tricorder is equipped with a small removable hand scanner located in a compartment in the head of the unit. The science hand scanner can be removed and replaced with a medical head containing a removable illuminating medical hand scanner. The Mark VII replaced the Mark VI Tricorder at the beginning of the fourth season of TNG, but the Mark VI saw continued use throughoutTNG, Deep Space Nine and Voyager as background Tricorders. Measures 7 ½" long when open and includes a black fabric-covered holster with Velcro backing for attachment.
