Lot 0049 Details

Description
This big Ashanti bronze figure is quite rare, compared to the more commonplace smaller figures. It represents a hunter with his gun and smoking a pipe while holding some wood on his head. Like most gold-weights it probably represents a proverb. There is an entire language of mottoes proverbs and historical events depicted in these miniature works of art. These gold-weights were of a specific weight and were used to weigh gold dust. Provenance: Bob Germ collection in Hoboken-Belgium H= 9cm
