Paintings - Sicilian painter from the 17th century. Caravaggio’s style painting picturing Christ carrying the cross, with characters. Mario Minniti (allegedly.). 75x103, oil paint on canvas"Christ Cruciferous ascending to the calvary surrounded by characters", 75x103. Private collection from a Roman familyPiece of art certainly from the Roman period, where attending the workshop of Lorenzo Siciliano, Minniti got to know and accompany Michelangelo Merisi, known as Il Caravaggio. This frequentation allows him to assimilate the Caravaggio-like tones, which are certainly not to be compared to those of the Master, but which are partly influenced by the plastic chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, of which he had become a collaborator, friend and model. In fact, in several pieces by Caravaggio, his figure is recognizable as he volunteered as a model, for example in The Child with The Fruit Basket, The Concert, The Boy Bitten by the Green Lizard, etc. Minniti's style can be summarized in this particular painting as a pictorial representation with discrete, almost luminous tones, in which color is distributed in a formula designed to highlight the formal aspects of the painting, rather than the plastic ones. For these reasons, Minniti's painting were quite successful when he returned to Sicily (1606), among the various local commissions.

Oil on canvas, reframed, minor restorations. Piece basically intact. Antique frame.
