Auction addict@ 888 auctions
I have won several pieces from 888 auctions & I'm so happy with all my pieces. Always do your research on the item you're bidding on. The loose stones are spectacular & can't wait to make pendants for my pearls or on a torque/chain. Very happy to deal with 888 auctions. If any problem arises, they will go out of their way to guide & help you. I would highly reccommend this auction house. Very happy with items & service. Thank you. Cleo

Honest Descriptions & COVID Curbside Pickup
A Canadian auction house with policies in place to safely pick up items pickup. As others have noted, while many or most of the items listed are legitimate, many are in categories that are prone to fakery, and there is no handholding to help you work out the difference. Keep your eyes open and do your research before you bid, as you would with any investment or collection. If nothing else, bid on what you like for the sake of itself, and not for the hopes turning a profit and flipping it. You won't go wrong with that intention.

BEWARE!!! Please do your research first; I do not know how much I can stress this.
I've noticed that a particular artist's drawing was put on the auction for the third time in less than six months. I started doing in-depth research and contacted a scholar who has written numerous books and articles on the artist: the verdict: fake, and a bad one for the matter. When I emailed the gallery, I was told it was sold to the buyer. What a coincidence!! After this, I started getting very suspicious of a piece I purchased a few months ago. The same thing, I did the research (I know, a little too late), contacted another high-profile collector specializing in that particular artist's works, and the same verdict. Fake!! Other might have better experience and luck, but I am not going to make any further purchases from this gallery.

888 Auctions endeavors to be as transparent as possible in its descriptions. The description specifically stated that it was 'signed Bekinski' on the lower left corner with dimensions clearly stated [ 30 x 21 cm (12 x 8 inches) ]. As stated in the condition report: Signed [ Artist Name ]: In cases in which the signature is legible in the lot, this work is described as-is with no attributions given.

buyer beware
If you are not in Canada, i highly encourage you to stay away from this auction house. I wish they were honest about the shipping cost upfront. Even liking an item, you can end up winning and possibly pay on average of $75 for a 2 oz item as starting. It happened to me. I made sure to check all my bids listing and I had no bidding item w them, somehow I got an email for the payment. I paid anyway and asked them to throw the items away after I found out it costs $75 for 2 oz weight items. It will take them roughly 3 days to reply back to your concern. I have bought items from some really amazing auction houses, but this one is the worse and I will never do business w them again. Stay away to avoid paying for the expense that is not worth to deal with.

Be careful
Be careful, you can win and not receive the item, they justify the situation with an email saying "there was a clerking mistake during the live auction and the item was sold to you by mistake."

Can Be Deceptive-read descriptions carefully.
Some items are great. Others are not as described. I bid on a Leung watercolor, called Original and Signed-and got a poster size copy of the picture. In addition, the shipping [ which came in at $95 and more than the item cost ] turned out to be the poster, rolled up and stuffed in a tube. For $95. Be very careful and check out what you want to bid on.

Helpful staff, items as described
I have bid with 888 in several auctions. Items are as described and competitvely priced. When questions of provenance or authenticity come up, the auctioneer has been very honest and forthcoming with information. Eojin, in particular, has been great to work with. Payment and shipping are streamlined, and although rates through PakShip are higher than domestic US rates, the shipper is very efficient and easy to work with.

Caution All items were fake
All the items were fake. The items were listed as Natural stones, and came with a certificate claiming they were. 888 refunded me for them BUT I am not refunded for the auction premium nor the appraisal cost to determine they were fake.

I should have known...
... that a 5 carat "Alexandrite" wouldn't be so inexpensive. I stupidly thought that since it came from India that it was a new type of Alexandrite. The listing only had 1 photo that showed this gorgeous pinkish-purple colored stone. But when it arrived, it was a yellow-ish green. I looked at it under different lighting and it stayed the same green color under incandescent, halogen, and sunlight. But it changed to a pretty purple under fluorescent light. Not normal behavior for an "Alexandrite". I did a refractive index test and at least it wasn't glass. But it tested as a Peridot. I will have it confirmed by my jeweler when they are open. Bottom line is.... this stone is pretty, but it is NOT Alexandrite. So beware of this company and the stones that they are selling. They are not as honest as they should be.
