Everything went very smoothly. I was the only bidder on a wonderful Chinese vase and won it for $50. I did not realize that it was so enormous but was able to find a shipper-Jack London Mail-that did a great job for a decent price. I recommend both Clars and Jack London.....

No hang ups smooth process

Clars is a great auction house, and their lots are consistently of high quality at reasonable and fair prices.

This music box looked lovely in the photos, and I was quite pleasantly surprised when my opening bid won the item. The box arrived with one of the lid hinges broken — this I fixed easily. The box has major mechanical problems. The Geneva stop engages after just 3 pulls on the winding lever, and it barely plays 2 Aires and then it stops. The transport is going to have to be taken down, and probably rebuilt. It was great to see all the teeth 🦷 intact, but then I started to play it. The combs are badly out of tune. The box makes noise, but I could hardly call it music. It’s so bad, I can’t even recognize what it’s trying to play. And so, with the shipping this thing cost me over $1, 000. And what did I get? I got one pretty, very expensive 41 pound paperweight that makes noise — and it will cost at least another $1K to get it into working condition. I think that auctioneers should give bidders as much information as they possibly can. Music boxes are supposed to play music, and even a. wav audio file would tell the whole story. If I could get my money back, I gladly would...... The music box is now in my storage, and will probably stay there forever. Truly one dreadful experience all the way.
