There was very little information available for a set of china pieces and I misjudged how large and ugly the pieces were. Maybe I was just lazy but looking back I can see that I really bought a pig in a poke.

I had a very good experience with the entire auction process and the team at Garth's Auction. All my items were exactly as pictured. I called in advance of pickup and everything was organized for me by the pickup. They even helped me load my car. Very satisfied with Garth's.

I won, via LiveAuctioneers, two bundled items (I didn't really want one of the two items, but had no choice) at Garth's in June of 2020. I didn't see an invoice for a couple weeks (usually they arrive within three business days). Garth's offers in-house shipping (unusual and convenient) which I requested. Unfortunately, the two items (one being somewhat fragile, an antique lamp, which I wanted, and the other being quite hard and heavy, a cast iron figural doorstop) were packed carelessly and quickly-essentially the items were tossed in a large box full of packing peanuts. That's it. Not wrapped in bubble wrap, etc. or in separate containers. Due to this carelessness, the piece I wanted arrived damaged. Fortunately, I was able to fix the damage myself (I restore antique lamps) which involved considerable time and trouble. To Garth's credit, they did eventually refund the shipping cost and credited me $25 as compensation, so in the end they made good and seemed sincerely apologetic in personal email messages. I just hope they reassess their shipping policies, training, and practices-especially for antique items-to avoid shipping damage in the future. Also, auction houses shouldn't bundle items together for bid, especially pieces that don't complement each other in any way or could damage each other during shipment (if boxed together). In the end, I would probably bid with Garth's again, but perhaps not on fragile items.
