Modern style, unlike contemporary, lasted a specific period, between the 1860s and 1970s. This style is characterized by sleek and clean lines, expressive use of bright colors and new materials and minimal ornaments. The modern style can be found in drawings, paintings, sculptures and architecture. There is more experimentation, with different mediums that can include metal, glass, steel, concrete, and iron. Artists that followed the modern style, started experimenting with Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, Pop art, Futurism, Impressionism, Surrealism and Dada.
