This General Sale features the usual excellent selection of subject matters. Continental and English Literature and History contains a first edition of Le Philosphe Sans le Savoir by Michel-Jean Sedaine (1766), a major work in the canon of French Theatre. It is one of the earliest examples of the drame bourgeois set down by Diderot in his Le Fils Naturel of 1757 and is estimated to reach £300-400.
A Gardening section contains some rare horticultural gems. Richard Weston’s Tracts on Practical Agriculture and Gardening from 1773 is expected to realise £300-400 and a scarce first edition of George W Johnson A History of English Gardening from 1929 should reach £150-200. Amongst the Modern First Editions is an unusually fine copy of John Wyndham’s The Day of the Triffids (1951) estimated at £1000-1500 and as the popularity of Ian Fleming only gains pace we offer a selection of his infamous works.
Art Reference is well catered for with The Soft Porcelain of Sévres by Édouard Garnier (1892) expected to reach £800-1,200 and a first edition of Photographe de Paris by Eugene Atget (1930) estimated to realise £200-300. Further categories include Children’s and Illustrated Books, Bibliography, Travel, Topography, Sports and Pastimes and Science and Medicine. To view the catalogue in full click here.
