Warhol, Modern Prints, Books
This sale of over 700 lots once again offers collectors a vast array of 20th century prints. British highlights include an important private collection of Richard Hamilton prints, including his iconic My Marilyn. This silkscreen is one of Hamilton's most overtly 'pop' images. My Marilyn is a sad recollection of a starlet in her prime and is the artist's response to Warhol's image of Marilyn Monroe from 1962 and is estimated to realise £30,000-40,000. Collectors of European Modern Masters will find important works by Picasso such as Femme au Chapeau, a linocut from 1962 estimated at £25,000-35,000 and Homme devoilant une femme, an etching from 1934 estimated at £10,000-15,000.
A rare colour etching by Matisse, Petit Intérior Bleu from 1952, is expected to reach £7,000-9,000 and we are offering one of Joan Miró's most important surrealist prints Femme au Miroir from 1957 estimated at £20,000-25,000.
An important group of works by Salvador Dalí, including the rarely seen Horses Portfolio Les Chevaux Daliniens, comprising 25 signed lithographs to make a complete set is estimated to reach £20,000-25,000.
As always there is a wide selection of contemporary works. Britain's latest superstar artist Banksy is featured, including his early and important Bomb Middle England silkscreen estimated at £3,000-4,000. Also look out for a selection of Anthony Micallef's prints, an artist who many in the art world are suggesting is the new Banksy.
