Sale 2020 - Old Master to Contemporary Prints

Swann Galleries’ Sale 2020 on November 4, 2004 is an auction of Old Master through Contemporary Prints replete with museum-quality prints spanning five centuries. The first session of the sale comprises 100 Important Old Master Prints. The second and third sessions offer nearly 700 lots of Old Master through Contemporary Prints. Among the old masters are significant works by Dürer, Goya and Rembrandt. Nineteenth-century highlights include scarce prints by Cassatt, Gauguin, Manet, Redon, Toulouse-Lautrec, Vallotton and Vuillard. A large selection of exquisite Picassos traces his entire range as a graphic genius. These include his first major print, Le Repas Frugal, drypoint, 1904, created when he was only 23 years old; Minotaure, une Coupe à la Main, et Jeune Femme, etching, 1933; Tête de jeune fille, lithograph, 1946; and Jacqueline lisant, lithograph, 1957. Other notable modern European works include a wide range of lithographs by Matisse, a selection of Georges Rouault’s color aquatints, and many fine Chagalls and Mirós. The auction also offers a strong selection of modern American prints and desirable portfolios. ======================================== On Tuesday, November 9, Swann Galleries will hold sale 2021, an auction of Autographs featuring rare presidential documents, the second installment of selections from the Lawrence collection of Custeriana, and an excellent selection of Americana. Highlights include a George Washington military appointment, signed Civil War cartes-de-visite, Dashiel Hammett archive and autographs of presidents, scientists, artists and musicians. ======================================== On Thursday, November 11, Swann Galleries will hold auction 2022, 19th & 20th Century Literature, featuring a rich and eclectic selection of books. Among the 19th-century highlights are first editions of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books, several works by Charles Dickens and many examples of literary sets and decorative bindings. Twentieth-century items include first editions by Faulkner, Hemingway and Joyce and a set of signed limited editions of A.A. Milne’s Pooh books.
