Freeman's is proud to offer in the first book auction of its bicentenary several first editions of books central to the history of human culture. Nicolaus Copernicus's De Revolutionibus orbum coelestium...published in Nuremberg in 1543 heralded the birth of heliocentrism & inaugurated the scientific revolution; while James Joyce's Ulysses (1922)& Finnegans Wake (1939) completed the revolution of Modernism in literature. We are also proud to offer early 19th-century English color plate books representative of the best published during the great age of the production of such books. Classic children's books & private press are represented in this sale as are livres de artiste illustrated by William de Kooning, Balthus & others, sumptuously produced & issued in fine leather bindings by the Limited Editions Club in recent years.
