Fine Black and White Photographica_XX is proud to present several new works to the secondary market. Featured items are a Double Ambrotype, including a Ruby Ambrotype, of separately encased portraits of distinguished young mid-19th century women, in a Daguerreotype case by Littlefield, Parsons & Co. with Embracing Riveted Hinges patented in 1856 & 1857. Featured as well is a rare, surviving edition of a January 6, 1941 LIFE Magazine, with the cover portrait of Katherine Hepburn, and an important, vintage 'Keystone View' Stereoview of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. Other Stereoviews new to the secondary market are dual Lots by Seneca Ray (S.R.) Stoddard, (known for his Adirondack Mountains landscapes), of the fascinating chasms of Port Kent on Lake Champlain. Following suit is an 1806 (2 in 1) Stereoview Lot by Archibald Burns of the Glasgow Cathedral and Edinburgh landscape. Our auctions take pride in enumerating historical and consequential elements of most Lots, particularly the biographical hardships of either the artist or subject. Spread among the aforementioned works are numerous dye-based photolithographs that highlight photographers Alfred Cheney Johnston of Ziegfeld Follies notoriety, Toni Frissell, Edward Sheriff Curtis, and Herman Heyn. Plus notable portraits by unknowns of a boisterous Ernest Hemingway with drinking buddies; along with Sophia Loren, Harriet Tubman, female soldiers of both World Wars. A found photograph of a young Jayne Mansfield and an array of figurative nudes in this edition of Photographica_XX.
