Fall 2021 Collection of Antiques and Art

Oakridge Auction Gallery presents our October 2021 auction: a Fall Collection of Antiques & Art. Our sale will take place on October 23rd, 2021, at 10am Eastern Time (EDT). It features 370 lots of antiques, art, sterling silver, jewelry, and paintings, as well as a number of works of art from Asia. The auction starts with over 65 lots of fine estate jewelry and timepieces. Our range of earrings, rings, bracelets, brooches, and necklaces feature dazzling jewels and materials including diamonds over 1 ctw, 14K and 18K gold, jade and jadeite, sapphires, pearls, and more. The highlight is a stunning 18K dragonfly brooch with ruby eyes, a sapphire body, and over 140 diamonds over its wings and back. The timepieces and clocks in this sale are no less impressive, with the grandest being a Neoclassical gilt bronze clock from Black, Starr & Frost with its original beveled glass and mercury pendulum. Other makers include Geneve, Elgin, Omega, Lauterwasser, and more from France, Japan, and throughout the world. From there, the sale transitions to lots of Asian art, including over 100 lots of Chinese porcelains, paintings, snuff bottles, and other works of art, as well as nearly 100 lots of Japanese bronzes, lacquer, woodblocks, porcelain, and many antique arms and related accoutrements. Of our Chinese art, significant works include a cloisonne candle stand dating from the 16th-17th century, a bronze censer from the Ming dynasty, and various export silver pieces. And of our Japanese antiques, the finest pieces include a signed wakizashi dating from the Kamakura era of the 13th century; a ranked, Edo-period katana by Fujiwara Kagehira; and a hand-painted book with an imperial edict or mikotonori, which includes a 56-foot-long foldout with watercolor scenes of battle. Also included in this section is a stone sculpture of Shakyamuni Buddha made in the Gandhara region of Pakistan during the 2nd-3rd centuries CE. Next is a fine assortment of estate sterling silver. These 40 lots include sterling by Cartier and Tiffany, early Gorham pieces, a large coin silver tea set by R and W Willison, flatware from Towle and Gorham, a Bolivian bargueño desk, Mexican silver from Sanborn's, and much more. Our auction ends with over 70 lots of fine art including bronzes, glass and crystal, and paintings. Of the bronzes, the finest examples are a selection of Neoclassical pieces from the Barbidienne foundry as well as intricate sculptures by William H. Turner and Franz Kucharzyk. We are proud to present a number of excellent paintings, including an original oil landscape by Thomas Moran (1837-1926) dating from around 1870, several watercolors from 20th century American artist Hugh Mesibov, and original works by artists Saul Steinberg, Kenneth Adams, Jacob Kainen, Paula Towne, and more. Bidding is invited online via HiBid, Live Auctioneers, and Invaluable; by telephone; and by absentee bidding.
