Saturday, October 16th at 10AM The San Rafael Auction Gallery will hold its exceptional Fall Antiques Estate Auction.
The sale will include a broad spectrum of art and antiques including European and American decorative arts and furniture, fine jewelry, fine art, Chinese artifacts, Americana and bronzes, amongst other categories.
Among the most notable lots is an original watercolor costume rendering for Clark Gable in "Gone With the Wind", designed by Walter Plunkett of Oakland, California. The rendering illustrates Gable's riding costume in the film, and includes original fabric swatches.
The strong offering of fine art covers the 17th century through present day, and extends through Europe and the Americas. Included are works by Luigi Loir, Jan Asselijn, Hector McDonnell, Julian Walbridge Rix, and Esteban Vicente.
A 2.44 carat fancy yellow diamond ring highlights the fine jewelry component, which will also include a 23.72 carat pink imperial topaz ring and a lady's Patek Philippe timepiece.
The Chinese section of the sale features articles of jade, coral, porcelain, and bronze, as well as carved wood and ivory artifacts. Tianhuang seals, carved horn vessels, Chinese master paintings and carved furniture will also be offered.
Diana, a sculpture of the huntress by Paul Ludwig Kowalczewski, will number amongst the bronzes offered. Also included are 19th century works by Emmanuel Fremiet and Professor Aristide Petrilli, and a large contemporary work by sculptor Loet Vanderveen.
The auction will conclude with an impressive collection of canine collectibles. Hundreds of rare canine exhibition medals, metal dog figures and doorstops (mostly Hubley), inkwells, tobacciana, ashtrays, lamps, clocks, boot scrapes, etc.
