BPO Conductor & Violinist Estate Auction
The Lodge Auction House is proud to present this special auction featuring items from the estate of Mary Louise Nanna. Mary Louise Nanna was a first violinist who played with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for more than 50 years. She was also the founder, music director and conductor of the Ars Nova Musicians Chamber Orchestra and its Viva Vivaldi Festival. She became the first woman to conduct the National Symphony Orchestra. The Washington Post once published a story and a photo of Ms. Nanna under the headline, "A Woman's Place Is On the Podium."
On Oct. 3, 1966, Ms. Nanna began her career with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under Music Director Lukas Foss. Before her retirement as first violin in December 2017, Ms. Nanna performed with the BPO in Europe and at Carnegie Hall, and appeared on more than 50 recordings. She came from a musical family as her mother played the piano for silent movies in Buffalo theaters. Her father, a barber, played the mandolin.
This auction features many collectible posters, musical instruments, podiums, furniture and more from Ms. Nanna's estate; as well as many industrial arts foundry molds, Little Mayors of Buffalo Caricatures and many more collectibles.
This auction will be held on Tuesday July 26 at 3:00 PM EST and it is an Online Only Auction.
