Detring Gustav Family Heritage Auction
Charlotte's Auctions
Gustav Detring (1842-1913) was a German-born British official of Chinese Customs. He was appointed Customs Commissioner at Tianjin in 1877 where he worked under the patronage of Li Hongzhang. From 1878 to 1893 he was chairman of the board of directors of the British municipal council in Tianji.
Detring Gustav was an enthusiastic collector and had a rich collection of art. During his life in China, he went back and forth between China and Germany several times, and a large number of his collections were brought back to Germany. Some of his collections began to be loaned to museums for exhibition before World War I. After Detring Gustav passed away in Tianjin in 1913, his collection was inherited by his posterity and reserved in the United States and Germany respectively.
This October, Charlottes Auctions is honored to present an extraordinary Family Heritage collection of Detring Gustav (1842-1913), which was provided by Roger Harris, a descendant of his family. You do not miss this wonderful opportunity to buy or bid on this curated selection of Asian fine art and works of art.
