The Collection of Jill and John Fairchild
Graciously appointed and lovingly inhabited by Jill and John Fairchild for more than half of their sixty-four year marriage, the interiors of their apartment in one of New York City?s most prestigious buildings represent the sophisticated, worldly and comfortable life that they shared together. Decorated by the famed Lady Vivien Greenock of the English firm Colefax & Fowler, the rooms were filled with English and French furniture and decorations, botanical prints and drawings, Moroccan carpets and objects collected over a lifetime of travel. Mrs. Fairchild?s English heritage is present everywhere, highlighted by Colefax & Fowler?s classic English country house design aesthetic and use of botanical motifs with an historical palette throughout. The breadth of the collection shows Mrs. Fairchild?s varied interests, from drawing to music, her interest in nature, flowers and animals, and her life-long love of books and reading. Seen together, the collection is a glimpse into the rarified life of the Fairchild?s and is the embodiment of impeccable taste in the European tradition.
