Modern + Contemporary Art + Design Auction

Clars will present our Modern + Contemporary Fine Art Auction featuring an impressive collection of art and design covering numerous movements and mediums. Clars Art Department is excited to offer several very special works in our dedicated Modern and Contemporary Art sale. For the first time at auction, we present a work by Berlin-based painter Goetz Valien, whose work evokes predecessors including Edward Hopper and Giorgio de Chirico. Also included is a large screenprint by American Pop Art icon Andy Warhol. This piece, titled ?Letter to the World (The Kick) from Martha Graham,? this image depicts American dancer and choreographer Graham performing in a full-skirted dress in tones of blue. A third highlight this November is an oil on canvas painting by Latvian American artist Raimonds Staprans, whose saturated landscapes and still lifes made him one of those most celebrated artists in the Bay Area during the 20th century. Our Design Department is offering a collection of styles ranging from Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Mid-Century, Danish and Italian Modern and Studio furniture. Fine makers and designers including Dirk van Erp, Tiffany Studios, Galle, Erik Kirkegaard, Paul T. Frankl, Mastercraft, Michael Taylor, Buccellati, Versace and Louis Vuitton. This auction is devoted to the most outstanding artists spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in this highly curated collection.
