Select Antique Maps from a Private Collection

Presenting another auction of a long-time map sellers’ private collection. The maps presented here are all authentic and original vintage maps from atlases and other period sources. There are no reproductions in this sale. The sale starts off with an extremely scarce and highly collectible 1847 edition of Mitchell’s New Universal Atlas. It is complete and in surprisingly sound condition, with all maps clean and sound. Anthony Finley’s scarce 1833 map of Ohio and Michigan is another featured item that is seldom available anywhere. It appeared only in the later, scarcer Finley atlases. Several vintage maps of Texas are present, including a lovely 1865 Johnson example. A special feature of this auction is a group of Thomas Doughty first edition, hand-colored plates from the first major sport color plate book produced in America. Doughty was the founding father of the Hudson River School, America’s first native art movement. These first-edition plates are quite scarce. Proctor Civil War maps from 1891 make their appearance, plus Alain Mallet maps from 1685, Herman Moll maps from 1701, Nicolas De Fer maps from 1705, Mathew Carey maps from 1814, plus Colton, Mitchell, Cowperthwait, Olney, Smiley, Wallings, Perthes, Cram, McNally, Meyer, Cluver, Gray, Hardesty and Chambers are all contained herein. Conditions of the maps vary, but all items are sound and nearly all of them are in Very Good or better condition. Shipping is combined for multiple purchases.
