American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists

Freeman’s | Hindman’s fall auction of American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists offers a compelling selection of works from significant private collections, led by the esteemed Buck Family Collection of Philadelphia. The sale is distinguished by Thomas Hart Benton’s The Doctor (1952) and complemented by a broad array of paintings, sculpture, works on paper and sculpture, from Civil War-era oils by David Gilmour Blythe and landscapes of the Hudson River School through masterworks of American Impressionism by Childe Hassam, Willard Leroy Metcalf and Louis Ritman to exceptional 20th-century examples by Milton Avery and Wolf Kahn. We are especially proud to present a curated group of works by Norman Rockwell, N. C. Wyeth, Stevan Dohanos, and other icons of American illustration. Rounding out the sale are high-quality California and Western paintings, including those from the Collection of John and Rosetta Gernon, and offerings by celebrated Pennsylvania Impressionists, Morgan Colt, George Sotter, Fern Coppedge, John Fulton Folinsbee and others.
