Arms, Armor and Militaria

Comprising the collections of Civil War Arms collector Bill Beard, and Sporting Arms collector Jeffrey W. Sanner, this tightly curated auction offers arms suited for collectors as well as sportsmen that will be of interest both for their historic merit and quality of craftsmanship. The highlight of the historic arms portion of the sale is Part I of the Bill Beard Collection of Confederate arms, which primarily focuses on the edged weapons produced by Tennessee based makers like Thomas Leech & Co / Memphis Novelty Works / Leech & Rigdon of Memphis and the College Hill Armory of Nashville. Additional historic edged weapons in the sale cover a range of early European swords, Civil War era swords, early 20th century experimental US swords and ethnographic weapons. The historic firearms portion of the sale covers many of the US military's small arms produced during the 19th century and include a rare US Model 1840 Musket in original flint, as well as a number of rare Indian Wars era experimental and trials rifles. World War arms include CMP M1D and M1C Garand Sniper Rifles, and a rare number matching pre-war 27 code K98 by Erma-Werke. For modern and sporting arms collectors, the sale will offer bespoke single-shot and bolt-action rifles built by George Gibbs, Holland & Holland, and W.J. Jeffery, along with custom rifles built by such respected gunsmiths as Stephen Heilmann, Darwin Hensley, C.C. Johnson, and Otto Niedner. Shotguns include examples produced by Purdey, Holland & Holland, LC Smith, Perazzi, Browning, and Krieghoff. Additional highlights of the Sanner Collection include four John Martz "Baby" pistols customized in the latter half of the 20th century, including a Luger in .45 ACP, several custom pistols by renowned pistolsmiths Armand Swenson and Wayne Novak and the only two experimental Norton DP-75 pistols to ever be produced.
