Post War and Contemporary Art

Freeman’s | Hindman is pleased to present the Post War & Contemporary Art auction on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Chicago, featuring 105 thoughtfully curated paintings, sculptures, photographs, and works on paper that span decades and continents. Leading the sale is Barry Flanagan’s whimsical yet commanding bronze Hare on Curly Bell (1980), one of the artist’s most iconic motifs. Also of note are Gertrude Abercrombie’s surreal daydream of a painting Home Run at White Sox Park (1964), Jack Bush’s powerfully vibrant hard-edged abstraction Piston (1967), and Joel Shapiro’s elegantly engineered figural minimalism in Untitled (2001–07). Additional highlights include Cindy Sherman’s shape-shifting Untitled #212 (1989) from her History Portrait series, a commanding late Sam Francis acrylic on canvas from 1994 marked by bold color and dynamic gesture, Isamu Noguchi’s lyrical Figure Emerging (1982), and Richard Hunt’s fluid bronze NaturalForm (1978). The auction further presents compelling works by Kiki Smith, Mary Bauermeister, Nam June Paik, Sophie Ryder, Barnaby Furnas, Tony Cragg, Francisco Toledo, Richard Pettibone, Tom Otterness, and Matthew Day Jackson. Together, these works create a dynamic and diverse presentation of Post War and Contemporary art, offering collectors exceptional opportunities to acquire significant examples across movements, media, and generations.
