Day One features fine jewelry and watches, including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, tourmalines, and a 44.51-carat tanzanite. Decorative arts include Tiffany Studios and Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrile glass, a signed Bruno Bertoldini Murano vase, and works by Muller Frères. The sculpture selection includes Westervelt’s Boy with the Boot, Jerome Soble’s monumental Control III, and monumental bronzes after Larche, Cyrus Dallin, and Frederic Remington, along with works by Paul Troubetzkoy, Carl Milles, Octavio Gonzalez Gutierrez, Robert Wyland, Doug Wylie, and Dale J. Evers. Several works descend from the Paul W. Windorf Collection. Furniture ranges from Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts to Art Deco, Danish Modern, Mid-Century Modern, and traditional forms. Highlights include an exceptional circa 1910 Art Nouveau “Bird Bureau” by Swedish architect and designer Ragnar Östberg, featuring carved bird, flora, and fauna motifs, bird-form door handles, a glazed white patina, and a birdseye maple interior. The bureau comes from the prominent Art & Design Collection of James (Jim) and Rose Ryan. Also from the Ryan Collection is a 1920 Art Deco wrought iron and marble accent table by Raymond Subes, with a hand-wrought four-legged base, iron tassel details, and a distinctive Rouge luxury marble top. Additional furniture highlights include works by Stickley, Charles and Ray Eames, Warren Platner, Peter Hvidt, Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, and Harry Østergaard. Carousel highlights include Boblo Island’s 1906 Illions “Middle Row Jumper,” along with works by Friedrich Heyn, Gustave Bayol, and A.E. Anderson. The sale also includes an Abraham Lincoln-signed naval appointment, 1957 Detroit Lions championship team memorabilia, and a 1968 Detroit Tigers World Series team-signed baseball.
