Acrylic Paintings by Morris Katz
Over a career of six decades, the offbeat artist Morris Katz (1932-2010) surpassed Picasso’s record to sell more than 225,000 pieces of art. According to the Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, the Polish-born Katz is the world’s fastest and most prolific painter. In 1956, he starting using rolls of toilet paper and palette knives to texture his paintings. His innovative technique and frenetic pace earned him appearances on Oprah, David Letterman and Regis Philbin, awarding him a celebrity-like status. Spectators watched in disbelief as he completed one landscape - a child in the snow - in less than a minute. In fact, in 1987, during a 12-hour day at the Penta Hotel in New York, Katz produced 103 paintings for a Boy Scouts of America fundraiser. Although his paintings usually sold for less than $150, three are displayed in the Smithsonian. With galleries in Greenwich Village and Jerusalem, Katz painted picturesque landscapes and cityscapes that are available for purchase.
