Art nouveau - Art deco - Art around 1900

The Spring Art Nouveau and Art Deco auction contains 1253 lots from all fields of the decorative arts of the 19th. and early 20th. centuries, with prices ranging from 20 € to 38,000 €, the estimate price for the only recorded example of Josef Hoffmann's ‘Silverware cabinet' dating from 1899, which was shown at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900. The cabinet takes pride of place in an extensive section devoted to Vienna and the countries of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, with splendid examples of work by the Amphora Ceramic Factory in Teplitz, Loetz, Meyr's Neffe and other leading glass-factories in Bohemia, ceramics by the Wiener Werkstätte, Michael Powolny, Friedrich Goldscheider, Ernst Wahliss, Wiener Keramik and other noted manufacturers (estimates from 100 € to 6000 €). Collectors of bronze figures will find plenty of opportunities among the numerous works from the Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin (500 € to 3000 €), as well as work by French, Danish and Austrian sculptors such as Gustav Gurschner, and even one ‘Dancer with a Parrot', ca. 1925, by the New York artist Joseph Renier, reminiscent of the work of Paul Manship (920 €). Excellent furniture is on offer from French manufacturers of the Art Deco period (1000 € to 6000 €), including a three-part folding screen by an unidentified artist with the monogram IC . Glass by Gallé, Daum and other major makers is available at estimates ranging from 300 € to 28,000 € for a magnificent triple-cased Gallé vase with colour and silver-foil inclusions. Meissen, Berlin, Nymphenburg and Berlin are the great names to be looked for in the porcelain sections. All in all, Auction 29 contains something for everybody!
